I go to our new Grande Marché almost every day. Part of the reason is that I’m trying hard to walk as much as possible to rebuild strength in my bad leg. But the other reason is that there’s just something soothing about seeing all the local farmer produce on display. I can’t really explain why that is so and the hectic nature of lots of people running around buying stuff would argue against it, but it makes me happy for some reason.
The other day I drew the corner of a really large, classic building that used to be the Science & Technology building on the fairgrounds on which the Grande Marché sits (it used to be the Agriculture building). Anyways, I just love the corners of this building. This was a quick and small sketch. Some day I’ll have to do a larger one.
Love that little corner… it’s the kind of detail I would draw, and then skip the rest. 😉 The Grande Marche sounds like fun — like a huge farmers market, maybe?
Yep, my preference as well. The whole building is pretty extraordinary but to fit it into a scene you’d have to get far away and all the detail would be lost. Yes, the Grande Marche is a farmer’s market with fish, beer, bread and ice cream thrown in. Think of Pike’s Place Market scaled down to fit a much smaller city 🙂

Hi Larry, You are definitely on a roll. I see your posts regularly. Keep on showing us your nice work ! Diane
Hi Diane. I am getting back to a more consistent sketching regime, though the limited walking ability has shifted my interests somewhat. I wish I could join you and the rest of USK in Montreal but I’ll have to wait until next year for that.
Glad to hear you’re walking daily. Beautiful sketch.
Yes, the walking is wonderful, though right now it’s an exercise regime, not a way to get to a sketching location. In fact, the walking makes me too tired to sketch, so I draw mostly at home.
